Avian Influenza in Humans

China (LPAH H7N9). On June 4, the Chinese Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) confirmed four new human cases of H7N9 in the Jiangsu and Shandong provinces. Three of the victims, a 33-year-old man, a 51-year-old man, and a 51-year-old woman, have been hospitalized and are being treated. The fourth victim, a 61-year-old man who had contact with poultry, died. To date, 433 human cases of H7N9 have been confirmed in China. To prevent the disease from spreading further, Chinese officials have increased disease surveillance, health education, and travel warnings.
